"AMAZING Malaysian food! After many takeout orders, I finally got a chance to eat-in here with my family. My family is Malaysian and we've been to every Malaysian restaurant possible to find a genuine taste.
The only Japanese food we ordered was the Mango Kani Salad and it was delicious. In the past, we've had their specialty rolls for takeout but they were average at best.
We also got some appetizer"small platters" such as the curry puffs and Malaysian sticky rice rolls. Both were very good but note that there are only 2 of each per order so order more for a large party. For the main dishes, we ordered Malaysian Yee Mee, Malaysian Red Curry, Bakuteh, and Kalbi Steak.
The Bakuteh is probably the hardest thing to get right but I can honestly say it's the best I've had in NY. The soup base is very smooth and the taste is just right so it's not too salty. Highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for a traditional taste!
The Yee Mee was good but the pork that came with it had a slight "unfresh"taste. The Kalbi Steak was delicious but it's not really a Korean taste, if that makes sense. The Malaysian Red Curry was a hit with my non-Malaysian relatives since it's not very spicy. It was more of a stir-fry style versus the more soupy kind you see coming with Roti or Nasi Lemak. Overall, the meal was very good.
I can't speak for the Japanese food here although they are a Japanese fusion restaurant but their Malaysian food is excellent! The service is great and the chef also personally greeted us to ask about the food. Since they're a new business they take their customers and suggestions very seriously. It was a great dining experience and I'll definitely be returning to Daizen!"
