"Was hesitant to order from here at first, but glad I did. It was one of the best meals I've had in a long while. For a person who is not a fan of sushi, they had many options for me to choose from otherwise. Everything was fresh, full of taste and of very good quality. The location is going to be a problem for this store, as not much last on New Dorp Lane of late, but if they advertise well, they will do good."

"We came here a while back on a recommendation from my sister and some friends who went here about a month ago. We have only great things to say about my experience here. My bf and I were seated immediately and were told about the specials. The waitress even opened my soda can lol saying she didn't want me to ruin my nails. How sweet!!! I ordered Gyoza pork while my bf devoted his Kani salad, both were fantastic. Then came the rolls....I had the yellow tail roll, spicy tuna roll and the sheepshead bay roll spicy tuna crunch topped with salmon and a special sauce it was amazing!!! The sauce was sweet and slightly tart but it went so well! My bf had some special rolls wit crab which I tried and enjoyed too! The staff was very attentive and friendly, there appears to be either a male and female ownermanagers who were going around and making sure every single table was taken care of. They offered free saki shots definitely next time! I have found my new resident sushi spot having been going to one spot for the last 6 years! I recommend everyone to come and experience a piece of awesome!!!!!"

"A newcomer on the block - and they off to a good start. Spacious, open, clean and modern - with a little bit of kitsch that most new lounges suffer from. Owner is a friendly guy, and tells you all about place if you willing to listen - I do appreciate it. Always good to know how restaurant started. Stuff is super helpful - from selections to mixing up drinks Fun!. The only thing that annoyed me a little is for all the waiters standing in line looking at customers eating - I do understand the urge to help with customers every demand, but relax a little, guys! Menu is huge - rolls, sushi, sashimi and everything inbetween. Fresh. Make sure to ask about specials - on one of my visits they had live uni delivered that evening and it was out of this world fresh and delicious. So far I tried several rolls as well as ala carte offeringd, appetizers and specials, and all been delightful. Alcohol selection is usual for sushi place, beer & sake - one thing that sets them apart tho is that they bring complimentary sake to the table - and pretty good one I may add. Now, I do not know if it's just special since they just opened, or they planning to do it in the future, but it is nice touch no less. Definitely worth checking out."

"Be forewarned. They nickel and dime you for EVERYTHING, including charging you an extra fee for something that is INCLUDED in on the rolls, which I thought was really strange. They have on their menu spicy tuna roll with tempura flake for $3.00, but yet when I ordered it they charged me an extra 50 cents for the flake, for EACH of the 4 rolls I ordered! They also charge $1.00 for spicy mayo I got two, and 50 cents for extra wasabi also two. Soo I paid an additional $5.00 for what You think they would be telling you as you order. To make it worse, the driver had two singles on him, so I had to tip him $8.00, very convenient. I’m not interested in wasting my money here anymore."

"Now this is as good as it gets. Def check this place out, it's the best one on New Dorp Lane by far and I've tried them all. The chicken hibachi dinner was incredible. My better half got the sushi platter and the salmon, tuna and yellowtail were all fresh and tasty. We also got a few orders of my perennial favorite - California rolls and they were also delicious. Tried some Hani Salad rolls crabmeat salad which were also great - we'll def order those again. We had gotten vegetable gyoza for appetizers with some of the rolls and the entire meal was great from start to finish. The service was attentive without being obnoxious. We got complimentary Sake and my son even got a Japanese soda for free which he loved. If they continue with this type of customer treatment and amazing food, they will close all the competition down. My only complaint was that the air conditioner was seriously cranked and we froze. We would have had dessert if we weren't so cold but that is easily remedied."

"been to many different sushi places on Staten Island - some claiming to be half off and some full price. With that said, we're going to compare peaches to peaches here so comparing this half off to other half offs on the island as well as full price take out sushi places. I don't consider the competitor "sushi excellent" full price as they're more expensive and i'm sure their quality should be on par with how much you pay. if you've been to their other chains in Brooklyn and queens, you definitely have an expectation and ours is very high. we frequent the one near 86th street and before that we frequented the one on Avenue M that's deeper into Brooklyn. When I say frequent... it was literally almost every week that one year we were introduced because of the price you pay $2.50 per roll, $1 per sushi compared to getting it for double the price or more. back to the review. Having to not have to pay toll is definitely a reliever and the fact that it's much closer to home is even better. so location wise it's definitely a +1 and i would say for everyone else except for me it would be an additional +1 for not having to pay the toll but the trade off is that the prices of most things are .25 more expensive than the Brooklyn and Queens locations which is not a problem for most people except me like as I said because I order 10 rolls - serious. i think i can stomach 12 lol. When you walk into the other branches, you know you are walking into a sushi restaurant, when you walk into this place, it's more of like a dining lounge type of atmosphere and the place is clean. The rolls remain the same with not too much rice and a good amount of "meat". All in all, having a branch on Staten Island is definitely welcomed and you can be sure that once my wife gives birth she cant have sushi for obvious reasons we will definitely frequent this place at least once a month if not more! I have been to "half offs" like Mitoushi, and i think that other place called Nakataso this should definitely get others to step up their game as Chikurin is definitely here to stay. P.S. Michelle is very nice"

"Do not EVER order online to deliver. The delivery guy can't speak any fluent English and you get your food in over an hour. It says 30-45 minutes? That's a lie. Food is good, but delivery time and trying to find an address that is 5minutes from the place for over an hour is unacceptable."

"To the previous reviewer - Ordered lunch online and had it delivered it less than 30 minutes - and yes the food is just as good as the Chikurin in Sheepshead Bay."

"So happy to have this place close by. Sushi is NOT exactly in short supply on New Dorp Lane, so this place certainly has some competition. That said, considering the quality, selection, friendliness of the staff, and a clean, comfortable and large dining room, this place wins for me. One of the first things to turn me off of a new sushi place is when most of the sushi is cooked through or fried. So I really appreciate that there's variety here without resorting to cooking the fish. I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. There are also rice-free choices for those limiting their carbohydrates intake. Prices are where you'd expect I shared an appetizer and two rolls, plus dessert fried cheesecake! for $25 including tip, but that's also with a 10% grand opening discount. Overall, it was worth every penny. I'll be back for sure."

"I am extremely disappointed! I already left a review specifically describing how bad the service was! However, it was simply deleted! I don't think that is the way to deal with NEW CUSTOMERS!!! I hope people stop coming to this place before they actually start!!!! If you want to attract customers, you should address their concerns! If you want to contact me regarding the horrible service I experienced, you may do so by emailing me at annalande@gmail.com"

"i've ordered delivery 3 times in less than a month....they're always quick of course and good price for the rolls. The rolls i get without rice, so i get to taste the spicy tuna and spicy salmon roll exclusively, and let me tell you it's really good they way they make it, and it's delicious and fresh. I've also ordered the shrimp Yaki Udon i think that's what it's called, it's the pan noodles not in broth and was surprised how much shrimp and veggies they put in it, so it wasn't just all noodles. i think it's a very promising start and i hope they keep it up!!"

"Had a horrible experience, have been going to this location ever since they opened and the last experience was the worst I have ever had at a restaurant, I came with 5 people on a Saturday night around 8 pm, the place was empty we were the only costumers, and the service was horrific, took 10 minutes for someone to take our drink orders, when the drinks finally arrived, the waitress had to be reminded to provide us with menus so we could order food. The food took a while to come out even thought we were the only ones at the restaurant, they also screwed up 2 orders and we had to send things back, and after horrible service or. Ether said no service at all they charged us 18% gratuity automatically which was very much not deceived, and when we asked why and if there was someone to talk to, there was no manager, and the owner was on vacation, needless to say never going back again!"

"Horrible service! Not great food! They automatically charge 18% gratuity because otherwise they would not make any money, no one would even leave them a penny for the service they provide! I'm never going back, and everyone should stay away!"

"Loved this place when they first opened...slowly the delivery got worse with the food lacking. Wasn't so bad the times we went in, but that deteriorated to. Honestly i ordered 2 times since they merged with the sushi place across the street, which used to be sushi excellence, i should have never ordered the second time. Time to find a new place..."

"Horrible, horrible service. I received my meal at 8pm. my company received their meal at 9pm, something wrong there. . If you want to get agitated, come here. I don't care if it's the best Japanese in the world, I would reconsider coming. I don't think this place will last, even though it's pretty inside."

"NOW SERVING DIM SUM!!!"

"January 16, 2020"

anonymous

"Their Dim Sum is excellent, we thought it would be a gimmick since its a sushi restaurant, how can a sushi restaurant make dim sum? two totally different cuisines, but they did it was really good we have tried about 6 different types. Soup dumplings are much better than anywhere else except the shanghai bistro on mott street of course, stuffed pepper with shrimp was excellent, shu mai as well. Very happy to have another dim sum option."

"The food is good, sushi are 3.5 out 5. But they need to hire someone to speaks English! It is absolutely nerve wracking to place an order! To order 6 items you spend 11 minutes repeating your self and half of the stuff you ask for is not recorded."

"I think this restaurant is closed. In its scheduled hours of work its phones are not answering and its seamless/grubhub sites are not taking orders."
