"We were really excited to try this place. We figured a chef with so many awards would not disappoint. While we waited for our food we looked over the awards on the wall. We decided to Google the awards and chef. The awards are for food carving. Crud. The dandan noodles were just spaghetti with a weak sesame sauce wit scallions. Nothing like actual dandan noodles. Fail. I got the chef special with pork belly and the pork belly was amazing. The rest was bland. My husband got the chef special seafood dish. He loved the sauce but for the price the plate was pretty scarce. It looked more like an appetizer size. I doubt we'll go back."

"I had read a recent Daily News article that the Chef Jan Kitchen recently opened in Grant City. After reading the Daily News' positive review about this restaurant, I was excited to try this cuisine which is Mandarin, Szechuan, and Hunan Chinese food supervised by one of Taiwan's top chefs -- Chef Jan who won 14 gold medals in international culinary competitions. On Sunday, I had the pleasure of sampling some amazing Chinese cuisine. Even though the restaurant was very busy, the staff went out of their way to give us great customer service. Our server, Apple, recommended that we try both the shredded pork in garlic sauce and the jumbo shrimp in garlic sauce dishes for dinner. Each dish was different and special. Chef Jan prepared both dishes with a high level of skill, expertise, and experience. These dishes were aesthetically pleasing to the eye as well as tasteful to the palate. Both dishes had layers upon layers of delicious flavors. In the last week, I have been to this restaurant not once, not twice, but three times because the food is so so good. I am encouraged that they do not use any MSG at all in the dishes we had. I just want to be clear that every ingredient that Chef Jan used to prepare my dish was the best quality and very fresh. Chef Jan's shrimps were the very best I ever eaten. Our bartender for the evening was Tony who is a master at making cocktails that I would highly recommend. For dessert, we had an incredible fried banana that was out of this world. The owners, Alison and Chef Jan himself, visited our table and asked how our dinner was. I explained to them that this was the best Chinese food experience that I ever had on Staten Island. Alison and Chef Jan were very nice and extremely respectful and made us feel at home. They and their staff are wonderful people. The staff of Chef Jan Kitchen are very hardworking people and friendly. "I have gone to this restaurant three times already since it opened. You will not be disappointed! The food is fantastic! Starting with the wonton soup, eggrolls and spareribs - unbelievable! Everything we tried was fresh and delicious. The wait staff is eager to please and Chef Jan will prepare anything you want regardless of being on the menu. No wonder he has awards all over the restaurant. And so clean! It is my new go to place for great Chinese on SI!"
