Pizza is a religion on Staten Island. Some people worship the all mighty Goodfella's. Then there's Gino's or Bario's. Then there are the people who swear their local corner pizzeria is the best. Goodfella's is the Martin Luther to Denino's Jesus.
Denino's has been cranking out pizza and meatballs since you were in short pants. Now their longevity doesn't necessarily make them the best, but the fact that generations of Italians choose to eat there might help them qualify. Just go there and get a slice. Or better yet, get a side order of meatballs with some italian bread. That's why life is worth living, my friend.
For further proof of why Denino's is the Godfather of Staten Island pizza:
I was traveling in Texas and went to try out what was declared to be authentic NY style pizza. It was pretty decent actually. I started speaking with the waitress and eventually the chef. He told me that each year for 2 weeks they shut the restaurant down and take the entire staff to NYC for 2 weeks of pizza binging. Guess where their first stop is?

Soory but I simply do not get the raves this place gets from people. I've tried 5 times to like their pizza but it is nowhere close to the pies made at Lee's Tavern, Joe and Pat's or Nunzio's. It's a step above frozen.

Best. Pizza. Ever. I think that if you hate Denino`s pizza, then you really need to move someplace where they don`t really appreciate pizza- like Mars or California. The staff is also very friendly and really knows how to move a crowd without making you feel rushed. On a Friday night, it can take about a 1/2 hour to get a table for 2, but I think any other similar sized restaurant with the same number of people waiting would take about an hour. I don`t know how they do it. Black magic maybe? There are some things I wish were better - accepting credit cards, bigger beer & wine selection, a bigger parking lot. My wife also wishes they had fried eggplant available as a topping. The pizza is so good though, that none of these complaints can knock a star off my review.
